Gun Bunch Scheme Guide

How to run Gun Bunch in the current meta: reads, adjustments and route combos vs every coverage. Re-checked after each patch.

SCHEME OVERVIEW & PERSONNEL

The Gun Bunch is designed fo create horizontal and vertical stretches against any coverage shell. By compressing three receivers to one side, it forces the defense to declare their assignments early while opening up natural rub routes.

RECOMMENDED ABILITIES

TACTICAL PROGRESSION

Mastering the read order from deepest to checkdown.

1

Deep Post

Read the deep middle safety. If he bites down or is non-existent, fire it deep.

2

Corner

If the post is covered, look outside to the corner route breaking toward the sideline.

3

Flat

Quick throw to the flat if the corner sits deep. Takes advantage of soft coverage.

4

Drag

The crossing route across the middle. Excellent vs Man coverage and finds holes in Zones.

5

Checkdown

When all else fails, hit the running back. Don't force a bad throw.

COVERAGE BEATERS

The drag and the corner route are your primary man-beaters. The natural rub from the bunch alignment usually gets the slot receiver wide open on the break.

Cover 2 leaves the sideline soft behind the flat corner and a hole between the two deep safeties. Attack it high-low: put one route in the flat to hold the corner, one on a corner route behind him, and let the safety pick which one he gives up.

Cover 3 is one deep defender per third with four underneath. Flood one third with three receivers at three depths — deep, intermediate, short — and the single defender can't cover all of them.

Cover 4 gives up the underneath. Four deep defenders means only three are covering everything short — so stop forcing the deep ball and work the flats, curls and the checkdown until the safeties start jumping routes.

COUNTERS & COMMON MISTAKES

When they send the house, you need built-in hot reads to counter aggressive pressures.

Max Protect

Block the RB and TE to pick up 7-man pressures and buy time for the post or corner.

Hot to the Flat

Quick throw to the RB or TE flat route if unblocked pressure arrives instantly.

Forcing the Deep Post

If the deep third is sitting there, take the checkdown. Don't force

turnovers.

Ignoring the User LB

Always identify who the opponent is usering pre-snap. They can take

away your primary read.

Staring Down One Route

Move your eyes through the progression. A good defender will bait you if

you lock on.

PRACTICE PLAN

WARM-UP

Run the play against random defenses to get the pre-snap adjustments and muscle memory down quickly.

COVERAGE TEST

Set defense to specific coverages (Man, Cover 2, 3, 4) and practice hitting the designated beaters.

COUNTER TEST

Practice setting up max protect and quick hot routes against heavy blitz looks under pressure.
